Built in 1847 on this choice lot, the Gazebo Inn Ogunquit was the Woodbury
Dixon farm encompassing over 140 acres, remaining in that family for over 100+
years and run as a farm to support the family. Later in the 1970s it became a
boarding house, the town still has locals that will tell you the stories of
when they lived in the building. The barn at that time became a horse barn for
the current owners that were renting the apartments, and slowly the land was
sold off and currently sits on an acre. In the early 1980's the times of
guesthouses in New England two gentlemen started there business with 7 or so
rooms, later to rent the barn to a local sign maker and his wife who created all
the beautiful wooden carved signs up and down route one. Shortly after the sign
maker and his Wife Bought the Inn, ran a few rooms in the Summer and then sold
in 2005 to the 5th owners in over 150 years. This of course is the short version
of the history and we are happy to share more history and of course the
colorful stories in person.
